EVALUATION & TESTING

Our approach

Evaluation may be an obligation, but it can also be very useful. Evaluation reports should be clear, objective, balanced and constructive, with conclusions well supported by evidence and actionable recommendations.

To satisfy the relevant funding body, evaluation must show the value that has been provided to the target population, but evaluation should also identify scope for improvement and ways to extend the program by addressing emerging needs and building upon established strengths.

Evaluation is most effective when planned in advance, so strong evidence of impacts and outcomes can be collected from the beginning and any problems identified can be corrected early.

Concept testing of campaign materials and information resources prior to production ensures that they are clearly understood, credible, helpful and appealing to the target audience and that anything open to misinterpretation or likely to offend can be identified and corrected before products are finalised and released.

Focus testing can inform choices between competing designs, identifying not only the best liked, but how preferences vary across target segments and the reasons some designs or slogans have more appeal than others and why some will be more effective in promoting behavioural change.

Needs assessment can provide constructive guidance to program planning by identifying the service or information needs of defined populations, including facilitators of positive change and barriers that stand in the way.
